Last Friday night, HVC was able to invite Tim & Kris Boettger to come and speak at our Love & Marriage Night.  We had a fantastic night with 90+ couples as we enjoyed Mexican food, great company and reminders on the intentionality of marriage.

After the night was over, a specific study kept bouncing around in my head all weekend long.  Tim brought up a study that was taken on marriage relationships. The research was looking for what brought the most stability and longevity to a marriage. The results were actually surprising. The research showed that the path to a solid marriage wasn’t based on if there were bumps, conflicts, heartaches or difficulties in the relationship, but rather if the couple knew how how to bounce back from those difficulties.

In a nutshell, how does a couple handle conflict and do they know how to navigate through difficult situations? If the couple has the tools and ability to face and walk through hard circumstances, even those self-inflicted, then their satisfaction and stability in marriage sky-rockets over other marriages! So in essence, it is not what you face that gives the most satisfaction in marriage, but how you face it together that does. I don’t know about you, but this is great news to me!

For the last year, we as a church have been talking about, learning about and investing in Marriage Coaching. We believe that this is a piece of building a solid marriage. So often pain in relationships go untouched. Where do you begin? Who do you talk to? Who would understand? How do you get “unstuck?” It could be as simple as being stuck on a specific issue or as difficult as marriage unfaithfulness. Here at HVC we have Marriage Coaches that are passionate about marriage, have experienced the highs and lows of marriage and are trained to walk alongside other couples that need refreshment, guidance or simply relationship. They lean heavily on the guidance of the Holy Spirit and believe that nothing is beyond God’s redemption.

If in any way taking a step forward to be intentional in your marriage relationship resonates with you, our Marriage Coaches would love to walk alongside you.  Connect with a marriage coach.

Over the next few weeks I will be talking about the things that the Lord has been laying on my heart for Family Ministries. I can’t wait to share with you over the next month what we believe God wants to do in our church and families.  Until then, stay warm!
